In 1999, the West Virginia Prevention Resource Center applied for funds from The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Grant Program administered by The WV Division of Criminal Justice Services to impact underage alcohol use in WV. Current Projects - Stimulate Awareness Regarding Underage Alcohol Use in WV

Goal: Impact attitudes and behaviors concerning underage drinking by conducting public forums, providing training, and working with youth to produce television and radio public service announcements for statewide distribution.

Goal: Produce public service announcements for statewide distribution to impact youth attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors concerning underage drinking.

Partnership for Drug Free WV assisted with the distribution to television stations across WV and to other community prevention professionals.


2001 - Public Service Announcements

Goal: Produce public service announcements for statewide distribution to impact youth attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors concerning underage drinking. Create a website concerning underage alcohol use targeting high school students.

2000 - Youth Created Messages

Goal: Address the issue of underage drinking by developing and marketing youth created messages to change perceptions. Hold a “Combating Underage Drinking” media contest in selected high schools in Kanawha, Logan, Putnam, Raleigh, and Webster counties and survey students.

The Underage Drinking Prevention and Social Marketing Project at the West Virginia Prevention Resource Center is federally funded though the following grants: The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention's Substance Abuse Prevention & Treatment Block Grant administered through the WV Division on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse; The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Grant administered through the WV Division of Criminal Justice Services; and The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention's Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant also administered through the WV Division of Criminal Justice Services. This project is also supported in part by funds from the WV Governor's Highway Safety Program.
