Community Forums
Community Forums are built on the idea there is an engaged public,
who frames the issues, deliberates, develops shared directions, and acts together
to make an impact. The West Virginia Center for Civic Life, with support from National Issues Forums Institute
and the Kettering Foundation,
developed a partnership with the West Virginia Prevention Resource Center to address
the problem of underage alcohol use.
Through the framing process, prevention specialists gained information from nearly
400 WV citizens (including, but not limited to, youth, parents, school officials,
government officials, police officers, church officials, bar owners, and retail
sales clerks). With this information a community discussion guide was developed,
along with a post-forum survey. Several communities in WV have participated in the
process.
If you would like to hold a community forum, please contact
Stephanie Southall.
